When COVID hit in 2020, many of our friends and neighbors packed up and left NYC for greener pastures. We noticed something interesting among the heaps of junk they left behind. It wasn’t the used furniture or the discarded appliances that caught our attention. It was the incredible amount of branded merch thrown hastily into trash bags and left in the streets. We’re talking piles of cheaply made t-shirts, novelty frisbees, and flimsy plastic water bottles.
We started to think, what gives an object staying power? Is it the way it looks, how it feels when you touch it and hold it? Or is it in the story of where it came from, who crafted it?
To us, the answer was clear: todo. All of the above.
