How it works

Techniques

Bordado (traditional embroidery)

Chiapas.

The traditional craft of bordado is taught from a very young age to many children in the Mayan regions of México. In the past, the tip of a maguey or agave plant was used as a needle. The art of embroidery is passed down from generation to generation and the styles and designs vary from state to state.

Maquila (textile manufacturing)

Mexico City, Guadalajara.

Our maquila partners use modern fabrication techniques to cut, sew, build, and assemble a wide range of textile products. Their work often establishes the foundation of what we make together, from t-shirts to homegoods.

Telar de cintura
(waist loom weaving)

Oaxaca, Chiapas.

Telar de cintura is a traditional method of weaving using a small loom that is worn around the waist. This type of weaving is passed down from generation to generation and is used to create both simple designs and elaborate patterns. The weaver uses a variety of techniques, such as counting stitches, to create beautiful the desired effects.

Screen printing

Mexico City.

This classic technique involves color separation printing and produces striking images with a distinct hand-crafted look. Our screen printing partners are seasoned experts, working with care and precision at scale. This technique is well suited for producing images on tote bags, t-shirts, baseball hats, and tags, among other things.

Machine Embroidery

Mexico City.

Machine embroidery refers to the use of computerized embroidery machines to create intricate designs and patterns on fabric. It adds texture and flare to any type of textile and it’s accuracy and detail are on point.

Cestería and tejido de palma
(palm weaving)

Guerrero.

Cestería and tejido de palma involve weaving together flexible organic materials, such as palm leaves to create a desired shape. It is one of the oldest techniques from Mesoamerica and because of the materials and methods involved, it is considered a highly sustainable craft.

Digital printing

Mexico City.

We work with a team of digital printing experts using offset machines to produce high quality printed products. This technique is key for bookmaking and brand integration on notebooks, journals, and other bespoke stationery supplies.

Telar de pedal (loom weaving)

Oaxaca.

Telar de pedal involves weaving complex patterns using large wooden looms, a perfect way to create beautiful woven fabrics at larger scales. We work with artisans in Teotitlan del Valle, the Mecca for traditional Mexican textiles, located in the state of Oaxaca.

Barro and ceramics

Oaxaca.

Oaxaca is also a hub known for its diverse ceramic traditions. Drawing on their strong knowledge of natural materials, artisans create cookware, jewelry, and other ceramic pieces that are both beautiful and functional. Traditional techniques involve mixing earth to create distinct types of clays and glazes, each producing a unique and striking effect.

Volcanic rock carving

Puebla.

México is a geological tapestry. The imposing presence of dozens of volcanoes, including el Popocatépetl and la Iztaccíhuatl has provided the area with an abundance of solid but malleable volcanic rock that can be shaped using traditional carving techniques. The material itself is a beautiful dark gray color with a distinctive texture formed over millennia from cooling lava.
